Junhao Mao is a Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cell and Cancer Biology at UMass Chan Medical School and T.H. Chan School of Medicine. His research focuses on signaling mechanisms in tissue homeostasis and tumorigenesis, particularly the Hippo, Wnt, and Hedgehog pathways.
- Education: PhD in Pharmacology from University of Rochester (2003), Postdoc in Developmental Biology at Harvard University (2003-2008)
- Awards: Charles H. Hood Foundation Child Health Research Award (2009), American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award (2011), Pancreatic Cancer Alliance Research Award (2015), Sanofi iAward (2020)
Research Interests: His lab investigates how dysregulation of developmental signaling pathways contributes to tumor initiation and progression, using molecular, cellular, and mouse genetic approaches. Recent work highlights roles of Hippo pathway components in sarcoma, pancreatic cancer, and intestinal homeostasis.
Publications: 15 most recent articles span topics in cancer biology, stem cell regulation, and developmental signaling. Key themes include Hippo-Wnt-Hedgehog cross-talk, YAP/TAZ-driven oncogenesis, and mechanistic studies in tumor suppression.
