Lois Ferguson is a Research Fellow at the University of East Anglia, affiliated with the School of Education & Lifelong Learning within the Faculty of Social Sciences. She holds dual roles as an Associate Tutor and Senior Research Associate, specializing in gender diversity, LGBTQ+ youth studies, and participatory research methodologies. Her doctoral work explored how gender diversity manifests in Physical Education contexts through creative post-qualitative frameworks, examining entanglements between bodies, policies, and material environments. Currently leading the Little Minds project (funded by the Joyce Morris Fund), she investigates mindfulness-based pedagogies in early childhood education to enhance communication skills through realist methodology.
Educationally, Ferguson holds a BA in Physical Education, MRes in Social Science Research Methods, and a PhD in Education from UEA. Methodologically, she prioritizes collaborative, creative approaches with youth populations and applies new materialist and posthumanist theories to her work. Outside academia, she actively supports LGBTQ+ youth through local charity engagement.
Her research spans gender performativity in sports, trans* narratives in mountaineering, and evolving LGBTQ+ terminology. Collaborations include interdisciplinary projects on LGBTQ+ ethics and historical language analysis. Teaching contributions cover qualitative research methods and critical sport studies at undergraduate/postgraduate levels.
