Llucia Mascorda-Cabre is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Plymouth, affiliated with the School of Biological and Marine Sciences under the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Her research focuses on understanding the ecological impacts of aquaculture practices and marine protected areas (MPAs).
Her work includes the Defra-funded FISP 'Ropes to Reefs' project, collaborating with fishers, farmers, and scientists to evaluate how offshore aquaculture contributes to habitat restoration, biodiversity enhancement, and sustainable fisheries management in Lyme Bay. This project integrates ecological assessments of mussel farms, scallop ranches, and seaweed farms within the Lyme Bay MPA.
Previously, her PhD examined the environmental footprint of an offshore longline mussel farm in Lyme Bay, analyzing hydrodynamic patterns, plankton communities, and benthic-pelagic interactions. She contributes to the aMER Unit and Marine Conservation Research Group, advancing knowledge on offshore aquaculture's role in marine ecosystem services.
Key collaborations include interdisciplinary projects with industry stakeholders and government agencies, aiming to inform policy and sustainable ocean management strategies.
