Lloyd D. Fricker, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research focuses on neuropeptides, peptidases, and their roles in intercellular and intracellular signaling. He investigates how peptides regulate physiological processes such as feeding, anxiety, pain, circadian rhythms, and memory, using mass spectrometry-based peptidomics techniques. His work also explores enzymes like carboxypeptidase E (CPE), which is critical for peptide hormone biosynthesis, and its role in obesity, diabetes, and neurological disorders. Fricker’s laboratory uses conditional knockout mouse models to study CPE’s cellular functions and employs peptidomic approaches to identify novel signaling peptides.
His research combines biochemical, genetic, and proteomic methodologies to uncover mechanisms underlying peptide-mediated signaling and their therapeutic potential. Notable contributions include the discovery of novel neuropeptides and seminal peptides, as well as advancements in quantitative peptidomics and proteasome inhibitor research. Fricker’s work bridges basic science with translational applications in drug development and metabolic disorders.
