Lizzie Bowes serves as a Research Associate at the Black Music Research Unit (BMRU) within CREAM at the University of Westminster, supporting Dr. Mykaell Riley, the Director. Concurrently, she is an AHRC-funded PhD candidate at the University of Bristol, conducting interdisciplinary research on Black-British rap and autofiction.
Her research interests encompass Black music, Musicology, Cultural studies, and Literary studies, with specialized focus on Black-British rap and autofiction. The BMRU, where she contributes significantly, maintains its position as the premier research center dedicated to Black-British music and culture.

Ms. Bowes actively participates in grant-funded initiatives, notably the EQUALIZE: Levelling Up Music Education project (funded by the University of Southampton, 2025), which targets structural disparities in music education accessibility and resources.
As a core contributor to the Black Music Research Unit, she engages in a collaborative research ecosystem that partners with institutions like the University of Southampton to advance scholarly understanding of Black-British cultural production and its societal impact.
