Liza Taylor is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and Policy Studies at Elon University, specializing in feminist theory, critical race theory, and social justice coalition politics. She holds a PhD in political theory from UCLA (2015) and master’s degrees from UCLA and the London School of Economics (2004–2005). Her research examines the intersection of feminist activism, democratic theory, and coalition-building strategies rooted in U.S. women of color feminism.

Research interests focus on politico-ethical coalition politics, feminist critiques of liberalism, and the legacy of 1970s/80s U.S. women of color feminism. Her book manuscript, Coalescing for Difference: Women of Color Feminism and Politico-Ethical Coalition Politics, is under contract with Duke University Press. She has published in Polity and New Political Science, including award-winning work on Susan Okin’s democratic feminist thesis.
Awards include the 2019 Polity Prize and recognition in a critical conversation on Black Lives Matter and progressive social change. Her teaching spans political theory, American government, and interdisciplinary courses on feminist activism. She has held visiting positions at Loyola Marymount University and Acadia University, and previously worked with the UNDP Gender Unit.
