Lenora Renee Knowles is a University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA's César E. Chávez Department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on Black women's and Latina political thought and activism, with particular emphasis on historical coalitions and resistance movements.
Dr. Knowles' research interests include:
- Women and Gender Studies with focus on women of color
- Latina Feminism and its historical development
- Archival Research methodologies for recovering marginalized voices
- Black radical tradition in U.S. political thought
- Grassroots Movements and state critique
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on intersectional analyses of race, gender, and class in welfare rights movements and coalition building among women of color. Her work examines how Third World women activists developed theoretical frameworks for understanding their "triple jeopardy" under systems of oppression.
