Dr. Liz Turner is a Lecturer in the Department of Management at the University of Liverpool, specializing in policing, criminal justice, and democratic values. Her research focuses on public perceptions of criminal justice systems, police discretion, and the role of criminology in democratic societies. She coordinates undergraduate modules such as 'Policing in a Divided Society' and contributes to criminological theory lectures.
Her work integrates qualitative methods, particularly ethnography, to study police practices. Notable projects include the Police Ethnography Research Collaboration (PERC), examining officers' use of discretion, and a study on pandemic policing during the 2020–2021 lockdowns. Turner has secured grants including the N8 Policing Research Partnership and ESRC-funded projects.
As a 1st Year Tutor, she supports student development while maintaining active engagement in academic governance and professional collaborations. Her research outputs span journals, reports, and book chapters, emphasizing conceptual frameworks in policing studies and critiques of public confidence mechanisms.
