Liyun Wang is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware, where she has been since 2005. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011 and full Professor in 2017. Currently, she serves as Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of the Center for Biomechanical Engineering Research, as well as Director of the Multiscale Assessment Research Core at the NIH-funded Delaware Center for Musculoskeletal Research.

Her research focuses on musculoskeletal mechanobiology, investigating diseases like osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, diabetes-related bone issues, and cancer bone metastasis. She integrates mechanical stimulation, advanced imaging, and biology to understand cellular responses to mechanical forces. Her laboratory has produced over 80 journal and 160 conference papers, cited 5,111 times (Google Scholar, 2024).
Dr. Wang has secured 33 grants totaling $33M (including $7.2M to her group) and mentored 20 graduate students, 7 postdocs, and 50+ undergraduates. Her trainees have won awards such as the Mary and George Nowinski Award, Francis Lindell Achievement Award, and Web Jee Young Investigator Awards. She was also elected Fellow of ASBMR (2021) and AIMBE (2022).
