Liye Xie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). She is an interdisciplinary anthropological archaeologist specializing in preindustrial technologies, with a focus on bone, stone, and earthen construction tools during China's Neolithic and Early Bronze Age.

Key trends in her recent publications (2006–2020) include experimental archaeology, quantitative analysis of labor systems, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding technological choices in prehistoric China.
