Liwei Wang is an Associate Professor at the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, UTHealth Houston, and a core member of the Center for Translational AI Excellence and Applications in Medicine (TEAM-AI). She holds an MD from Norman Bethune University (1999), MS in Library Science (2006), and PhD in Medical Informatics (2014) from Jilin University. Her work focuses on translating informatics solutions for cancer, precision medicine, mental health, and pharmacogenomics, leveraging EHRs, FAERS, and NLP algorithms. She leads projects developing lexicons, ontologies, and computational phenotyping tools.
Research interests include information extraction, real-world evidence generation, and adverse drug event surveillance. Her grants include funding from NLM and NCI. She collaborates widely with clinicians and epidemiologists, emphasizing interdisciplinary AI-driven healthcare innovation.
