Jinlian Wang

Jinlian Wang, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioinformatics and Systems Medicine at the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Her research focuses on applying machine learning, AI, and bioinformatics to address challenges in rare disease diagnosis, cancer genomics, and clinical informatics. She specializes in genomic data analysis pipelines, variant interpretation tools, and end-to-end informatics frameworks for precision medicine.

Dr. Wang holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Bioinformatics from Beijing University of Technology, an MS in Computer Science from Northwestern Polytechnical University, and a BA in Chemical Engineering from Anhui University of Science and Technology. Her expertise includes knowledgebase development, biomarker discovery, and systems medicine approaches to integrate multi-omics data.

Her current projects aim to accelerate rare disease diagnosis through AI-driven differential diagnosis systems, develop clinical trial analytics for personalized cancer therapies, and harmonize diverse healthcare data sources. She collaborates with Molecular Medicine, Oncology, and Genomic Testing Center teams to advance translational informatics solutions.

Dr. Wang’s work emphasizes bridging the 'translation gap' between research and clinical practice, particularly through innovations in automated genetic variant annotation (e.g., VONC tool), pharmacogenetic translation (CYP2D6 VCF Translator), and clinical decision-support systems. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Cancer and actively contributes to open-source bioinformatics tools.
