معرفی
Lise Nikolic Nielsen is a Professor (mso) and research group leader for veterinary clinical pathology and the veterinary diagnostic laboratory (VETLAB) at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Section for Internal Medicine, Oncology and Clinical Pathology. She has been a veterinarian since 2001 and has held various academic and research positions at the University of Copenhagen and other institutions.
Her educational background includes:
- Veterinarian (DVM) from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University
- PhD in biomarkers in cancer in Bernese Mountain dogs from the University of Copenhagen (2006-2011)
- CertSAM (Specialist in Small Animal Medicine)
- Danish Recognised Specialist in companion animal internal medicine
Professor Nielsen's research focuses on clinical pathology, which spans a wide area covering molecular markers in different types of biological material in living animals. Her specific research fields include identification of minimally invasive biomarkers for (early) disease detection in dogs and cats, validation of novel diagnostic and prognostic clinical biomarkers in a range of species, and investigation of the pathophysiological connection between haemostasis and inflammation in chronic medical and oncological conditions. Her work has significant implications for improving diagnostic approaches and understanding disease mechanisms in veterinary medicine.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise across multiple species (dogs, cats, horses) and conditions, with a particular emphasis on molecular diagnostics using microRNAs and other biomarkers. These publications show a consistent focus on translating basic science discoveries into clinically relevant diagnostic tools.
Professor Nielsen leads VETLAB (https://vetdiagnostik.ku.dk/), which supports both University Veterinary Hospitals with diagnostic analyses, as well as clinical practices in Denmark, internal and external research units, and zoos in Denmark. Her laboratory serves as a critical bridge between clinical practice and research in veterinary medicine.
She has taught pre- and post-graduate students since 2002. Currently, she teaches veterinary students in their 4th to 6th year, gives courses for veterinarians in clinical practice, and lectures both nationally and internationally. She has been involved in formalized research collaborations with Eiken A/S (Japan) and RefLab ApS (Denmark), and has had speaker engagements with various veterinary organizations including VETgruppen, IDEXX, Elanco (Denmark), Evidensia (Sweden), and ECVIM.
