Lise Kjølsrød is a Professor of Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. She holds a Mag.art (1978) and Dr.philos (1992) in Sociology. Her academic career includes roles as Associate Professor (1995–2005), Department Head (1999–2001), and Professor since 2005. She has also served in governmental roles, including Director General (acting) at the Ministry of Finance (1989–90).
Her research focuses on leisure sociology, welfare state dynamics, medical sociology, cultural studies, gender studies, and urban sociology. Notable works include analyses of leisure’s political dimensions, welfare state structures, and healthcare professional relationships. Awards include the Fafo Prize (1992) and a SAGE Prize nomination (2010).
She has led collaborations like Oslo Research (2002–present), bridging the Municipality of Oslo and UiO. Her teaching spans cultural sociology, welfare state studies, and research methodology. She serves on boards for institutions like NOVA and HERO, and editorial roles for Acta Sociologica.
Her publications span over four decades, addressing topics like leisure’s societal role, welfare state pressures, and gender dynamics in healthcare. Recent works emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to leisure and activism.
