معرفی
Lise Charlotte Berg, DVM, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. She is based at the large animal facility and hospital in Tåstrup, where her research labs are strategically located in close proximity to clinical areas, facilitating direct translation of research findings to clinical practice. Her work bridges veterinary clinical science with molecular orthopaedics, focusing on equine health and performance.
Dr. Berg earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Copenhagen (1996-2002), followed by a PhD in Veterinary Biochemistry from the same institution (2004-2008). During her doctoral studies, she conducted research at the University of Guelph, Canada, and has maintained international collaborations throughout her career, including a significant period as a visiting researcher at Cornell University under Dr. Lisa A. Fortier.
Her research program centers on equine molecular orthopaedics with particular emphasis on cartilage biology, joint disease mechanisms, stem cell therapies, and regenerative medicine applications for sport horses. Dr. Berg leads the Equine Molecular Orthopaedics research group, which investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying orthopaedic conditions in horses and develops innovative therapeutic approaches. Her work often integrates laboratory science with direct clinical applications to address pressing challenges in equine medicine.
Dr. Berg's publication record demonstrates consistent focus on translational research in equine orthopaedics, with recent work emphasizing stem cell therapies for osteoarthritis, molecular biomarkers in joint disease, and performance-related issues in athletic horses. Her research combines advanced molecular techniques with clinical validation to develop practical solutions for equine health problems.
- EliteForsk Diplom (rejsestipendium) - January 25, 2007
- ICRS (International Cartilage Repair Society) Meeting - Certificate of Merit
As principal investigator on multiple research projects, including significant funding from the Danish Research Council, Dr. Berg has secured over 9.4 million DKK in research funding. She actively participates in academic service as a reviewer for major journals in veterinary and orthopaedic research and has served on PhD assessment committees at multiple international institutions including universities in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Ghent.
The Equine Molecular Orthopaedics research group led by Dr. Berg operates at the intersection of basic science and clinical application. The group's work benefits from direct access to clinical cases at the university hospital, allowing for rapid translation of laboratory findings to patient care. Current projects focus on optimizing cell-based therapies for joint disorders and understanding the molecular basis of athletic performance limitations in sport horses.
