Lise Bech Christensen

Lise Bech Christensen is an Associate Professor at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where she is affiliated with The Cosmic Dawn Center (DAWN). Her research focuses on high-redshift astrophysics, particularly galaxy formation and evolution in the early universe. She works extensively with observational data from major telescopes including the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and has made significant contributions to the study of gamma-ray burst host galaxies, damped Lyman-alpha systems, and gravitational lensing phenomena.

Dr. Christensen's primary research areas include:

• Galaxy formation and star-formation at high redshifts
• Strong gravitational lenses as cosmic telescopes
• DLA systems and connection to galaxies
• GRBs and their host galaxies

Her recent work with JWST has advanced our understanding of metallicity in distant galaxies, with several 2024-2025 publications examining GRB host galaxies at cosmic noon and metal enrichment in z~4 sub-damped Lyman-alpha systems. She has also contributed to major instrumentation projects, notably the ANDES spectrograph for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), demonstrating expertise in both observational astronomy and instrument development.

With 125 research outputs including 117 journal articles, Dr. Christensen has established herself as a significant contributor to extragalactic astronomy. Her work frequently appears in top journals including Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society and Astronomy & Astrophysics, and she maintains active international collaborations across Europe and beyond.

Dr. Christensen has organized significant scientific events including the EWASS Sp15 session in 2015 and the 'Quasars and their absorption lines' collaboration workshop in 2013. She has also served as a visiting scientist at ESO Garching, demonstrating her active engagement with the broader astronomical community.
