Lisa Vollmer is a Lecturer and Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Institute for European Urban Studies (IfEU) within the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, a position she has held since 2017. She previously served as a substitute professor for urban planning at the same institution from December 2021 until October 2021.
Her academic background includes a PhD from the international graduate program "The world in the city" at Technical University Berlin and Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt/Oder, where her dissertation focused on "Tenant Movements in Berlin and New York. The Formation of Political Collectivity." She also holds an MA in Historical Urban Studies from Technical University Berlin and a BA in Art History and Cultural Studies from Universität Bremen.
Dr. Vollmer's research critically examines housing dynamics, social movements, and governance structures in contemporary cities, with particular emphasis on how marginalized communities co-produce social rights and public welfare. Her work bridges political theory and urban studies to analyze power relations in neoliberal urban environments, especially through tenant activism and participatory governance models.
She led the BMBF-funded research project "Urban Co-Production of Social Rights and Public Welfare" (January 2020–December 2022), which investigated collaborative frameworks between civil society and municipal authorities in urban service provision. Her teaching integrates these research themes into urban planning curricula at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
