Previously, she directed NOAA's Marine Mammal and Turtle Research Division.
Education includes:
- PhD in Ecology from UCLA
- MS in Marine Science from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories

Her research examines cetacean and seabird responses to environmental change, using ecosystem-scale surveys to inform conservation under marine protection acts. Current projects investigate climate impacts on seabird distributions and beaked whale populations.
Awards:
- Fellow, AAAS (2021)
- NOAA Bronze Medals (2008, 2019)
- U.S. Department of Commerce Silver Medal (2003)
