Dr. Lisa Strug is a Professor at the University of Toronto, holding appointments in the Departments of Statistical Sciences and Computer Science, and cross-appointed in Biostatistics. She is a Senior Scientist in the Program in Genetics and Genome Biology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). As the inaugural Director of the University of Toronto's Data Sciences Institute (DSI), she leads a multi-institutional hub for data science. She also directs CANSSI Ontario and holds leadership roles at SickKids, including Associate Director of the Centre for Applied Genomics. Her research focuses on developing statistical methodologies to analyze multi-omics data for genetic disease studies, particularly in cystic fibrosis and epilepsy.
Dr. Strug's research interests include statistical genetics, genome science, and pediatric genetic diseases. Her lab develops tools to identify genetic modifiers and translate findings into diagnostic models. She leads international consortia such as the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Gene Modifier Consortium and the Biology of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy International Consortium.
She has received prestigious awards, including the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair. Her administrative roles span interdisciplinary data science initiatives and statistical sciences leadership. The Strug Lab emphasizes translational research, aiming to identify therapeutic targets and predictive models for early intervention.
