Lisa Rein is a Researcher at the Department of Media Studies, Faculty of Media, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, working on the DFG-funded project 'Curating the Feed: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Digital Image Feeds and their Curatorial Assemblages' since March 2023. Previously, she served as a tutor at the Institute for History and Theory of Visual Culture, University of the Arts Berlin during the winter semester 2022/23.
Her educational background includes:
- M.A. in New Media with minor in Visual Culture, Curating and Contemporary Art from Aalto University Helsinki (2018-2021)
- B.A. in Integrated Design from University of the Arts Bremen (2012-2016), including exchange semester at Moholy-Nagy University Budapest
- Postgraduate studies in Art & Media at University of the Arts Berlin (2020-2023)
Research Interests:
Lisa Rein's work centers on the intersection of digital media and visual culture, with emphasis on curatorial practices in digital environments. She investigates how algorithmic image feeds shape contemporary visual culture and artistic production, examining the sociotechnical assemblages behind digital curation. Her research extends to virtual reality applications in cultural heritage preservation, exploring how immersive technologies transform audience engagement with historical artifacts. She maintains a critical perspective on everyday AI systems and their impact on visual literacy.

Grants and Academic Service:
Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the 'Curating the Feed' project, she actively contributes to academic governance as member of the Promovierendenrat (Doctoral Council) at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (since 2025) and the Commission for Good Work in Science of the Gesellschaft für Medienwissenschaft (since 2024). Her scholarly engagement includes membership in the Gesellschaft für Medienwissenschaft (since 2022), faces (since 2021), and gather Berlin (since 2020).
Laboratory and Project Affiliations:
She collaborates within the 'Curating the Feed' interdisciplinary research team at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and previously contributed to the 'Beyond Matter — Cultural Heritage on the Verge of Virtual Reality' project at Aalto University Helsinki and Tirana Art Lab during summer 2021, where she examined VR applications for cultural heritage institutions.
