- Education:
- Ph.D., Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Texas A&M University, 2009
- B.S., Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Kansas State University, 2003
Wilken leads the Bioseparations and Bioprocessing Laboratory, focusing on solving separation challenges in biomolecule recovery using experimental design, process simulation, and high-throughput screening. Her lab develops enzyme-assisted microalgae extraction techniques for sustainable lipid-protein separation, targeting algae biofuel and bioproduct processing bottlenecks.
Her work bridges pharmaceutical protein purification, industrial bioprocessing, and agricultural engineering innovations. Research highlights include advancements in chloroplast protein release and scalable biomass recovery systems.
- Scientific Awards:
- ASABE A.W. Farrall Young Educator Award (2016)
- Kansas State Presidential Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching (2016)
- ASABE Gale A. Holloway Professional Development Award (2017)
- Over 16 college/university/national awards
Wilken has led curriculum development for biological systems engineering programs and held leadership roles in ASABE and the Institute of Biological Engineering.
