Dr Lisa Nicole Sharwood is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Population Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of New South Wales (UNSW), and an Adjunct Professional Fellow at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and IT, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). With two decades of expertise in epidemiology, injury prevention, and health services research, her work spans injury surveillance, product safety standards, and policy evaluation.
Her research interests focus on:
- Identifying injury risks through national surveillance systems
- Evaluating the impact of Australian and international safety standards
- Health economic analyses of injury prevention strategies
- Addressing healthcare disparities in injury outcomes
Key projects include developing AI-driven national injury surveillance systems and economic evaluations of telehealth care pathways for rural populations. She has been recognized with awards such as the KidSafe Australia Research Article of the Year (2024) and the John Chalmers Doctoral Award (2013). Her work bridges academia, government, and industry through collaborations with AIHW, ACCC, and MUARC.
She supervises HDR candidates in injury surveillance, implementation science, and safety standard impact studies, and has secured over $12 million in research funding as a Chief Investigator.
