Lisa M. Minter is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is an active researcher in immunology, focusing on aberrant immune responses, particularly in autoimmune bone marrow failure such as Aplastic Anemia. Her lab investigates the role of NOTCH1 signaling in T cell activation and disease mechanisms using both in vitro and animal models.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Massachusetts Amherst, 2001
- Postdoctoral Training, UMass Amherst
Her research interests center on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying autoimmunity. She explores NOTCH1-interacting partners and their cooperative roles in disease, defines novel pathways in Notch signaling, and uses animal models of immune-mediated bone marrow failure and graft-vs-host disease to validate findings and test therapeutic interventions. Collaborations with Polymer Science and Chemistry departments enable the development of nanoplatform carriers for targeted delivery of siRNAs, antibodies, and small molecule inhibitors to modulate immune responses.
Dr. Minter advises several graduate students and leads a research team that includes senior and graduate researchers. She maintains an active research profile with publications indexed in NIH MyBibliography and Google Scholar, and contributes to public discourse through her COVID-19 blog, "Spiking the Spike".
Scientific Awards:
- No awards listed in the provided text.
She is actively involved in mentoring, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her lab works on developing tunable, specific immune-modulating therapies with translational potential. Current projects include dissecting autoimmune signaling pathways and testing pharmacological inhibitors under clinically relevant conditions using humanized disease models.
Labs and Teams: Dr. Minter leads a research laboratory in the Integrated Sciences Building at UMass Amherst, where she supervises graduate students and a senior research fellow. Her team employs molecular, cellular, and systems-level approaches to study immune dysregulation and develop novel therapeutic strategies.
