Lisa M. Kodadek, MD, FACS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of General Surgery, Trauma, and Surgical Critical Care at Yale School of Medicine. She specializes in acute traumatic injuries, emergency surgical conditions, and critical care, with certifications in Surgical Critical Care and Surgery from the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Kodadek leads the 6-4 surgical floor and stepdown unit at Yale New Haven Hospital, focusing on improving care delivery for diverse surgical populations through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Education: MD from Medical College of Wisconsin (2011), BS in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UC San Diego (2006). Surgical training includes residency at Johns Hopkins (2018), fellowships in Surgical Critical Care/Acute Care Surgery at Vanderbilt (2020), and a postdoctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins (2016). She also holds a certificate in Biomedical Ethics from Vanderbilt.
Research focuses on geriatric trauma, bioethical challenges in critical care, and patient-centered communication in the ICU. Key areas include palliative care integration in acute surgery, trauma outcomes among underserved populations, and guideline implementation to improve trauma care quality. Current projects emphasize optimizing care for older adults and critically ill patients through evidence-based, multidisciplinary approaches.
Professional leadership includes chairing the Guidelines Committee for the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST), and membership in the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and American College of Surgeons (ACS). Awards include the Oriens Award (EAST, 2019) and the Frank L. Coulson Jr. Award for Clinical Excellence (Johns Hopkins, 2018). Dr. Kodadek advocates for health equity through initiatives like the Community Health Equity Accelerator and collaborates nationally to advance trauma care standards through guideline development and implementation science.
