Dr. Lisa Kerr is an Assistant Professor at Queen's University, where she directs the Criminal Law Group and teaches courses in criminal law, sentencing, and prison law. She supports the strategic litigation work of the Queen's Prison Law Clinic.
Lisa earned her JD from the University of British Columbia (UBC), LL.M. and JSD from New York University. Her research focuses on bridging the gap between legal sentencing frameworks and the realities of prison administration, with a strong emphasis on systemic human rights challenges in correctional systems.
She has been actively involved in public interest litigation, working with organizations such as Pivot Legal Society and Prisoners' Legal Services (PLS), Canada's only dedicated legal services office for incarcerated people. Currently, she serves on the board of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association.
