Lisa J. Maione is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the Kansas City Art Institute. With a career spanning design practice, art direction, and academia, she has taught at Parsons School of Design, Queens College City University of New York, and Oklahoma State University since 2008. Her work focuses on expanding inclusivity in design history education through global perspectives and collaborative learning, as evidenced by her participation in the 2020 AIGA DEC Virtual Summit roundtable Teaching the History of Graphic Design in the Contemporary Global Context. She co-founded the Fazed Grunion design collective in 2015 and actively engages in institutional diversity initiatives like the IDEAS council.

She emphasizes collaborative frameworks like the extended-classroom model post-COVID and advocates for integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic structures. Her recent work revisits historical design strategies through digital mediums, prioritizing cross-cultural connections and asynchronous creative collaboration.
