Dr. Lisa C. Benson is a Professor in the Department of Engineering & Science Education at Clemson University. She holds a Ph.D. (2002), M.S. (1986), and B.S. (1982) in Bioengineering from Clemson University and the University of Vermont, respectively.

Her research focuses on student motivation, learning experiences, and engineering/science education. Key interests include student perceptions of engineering, problem-solving skills, self-regulated learning, and global competencies. She advocates for student-centered instruction and integrates engineering into secondary science curricula.
Dr. Benson advises graduate students such as Dennis Lee, Catherine McGough, and Victoria Sellers. She serves as Editor of the Journal of Engineering Education and participates in Sigma Xi, the Science as Art initiative, and the Clemson Memorial Carillon.
