Lisa Aultman-Hall is a Professor and Chair of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Previously, she held academic roles at the Universities of Vermont, Kentucky, and Connecticut. Her expertise spans transportation systems engineering, with a focus on long-distance intercity travel, transportation emissions, and network resiliency. She founded the Vermont Transportation Research Center (TRC), specializing in land-use and transportation modeling.
Education:
- PhD in Civil Engineering, McMaster University (1996)
- MASc in Civil Engineering, Queen's University (1993)
- BASc in Civil Engineering, McMaster University (1991)
Research Interests: Dr. Aultman-Hall pioneers innovative travel data collection methods, particularly for long-distance travel and electric vehicle adoption. Her work integrates spatial accessibility measures, climate adaptation strategies, and non-motorized transportation planning. Current projects include estimating carbon emissions for intercity travel and modeling EV charging infrastructure needs.
Awards:
- Outstanding Faculty Advisor (2014, UVM Graduate Student Senate)
Professional Activities: Active with the Transportation Research Board (TRB), she chairs committees on transportation data and long-distance travel. At Waterloo, she teaches courses in engineering economics, systems design, and interdisciplinary transportation systems. She also leads administrative initiatives, including university budget model reviews.
Labs/Teams: Former director of the Vermont Transportation Research Center; currently oversees the Systems Design Engineering research portfolio at Waterloo.
