Line Nyhagen is a Professor of Sociology at Loughborough University, UK, and holds an adjunct professorship at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). She specializes in religion, gender, feminism, and citizenship, focusing on barriers to citizenship for marginalized groups and inequalities in higher education. Nyhagen co-edits the Springer series Citizenship, Gender and Diversity and leads the CITHEI project on academic citizenship. She previously served as Head of the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy (2021–present), ESRC Midlands Graduate School Lead (2020–2021), and School Champion for Athena SWAN (2016–2019).
Her research includes a 2020 CALIBRE Award-nominated study on race and ethnicity in higher education. She has earned teaching awards, including Loughborough’s 2018 Vice-Chancellor’s Award, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Nyhagen holds a PhD and MA in Sociology from the University of Southern California and MA/BA in Political Science from the University of Bergen.
