Lindsey Nicholson is an Assistant Professor and Privatdozentin in the Department of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences at the University of Innsbruck. Her research focuses on glacier-climate interactions, debris-covered glaciers, and climate change impacts in mountain environments. She leads the Glaciology Group at the Centre for Climate and Cryosphere and has held roles including Senior Postdoctoral Researcher and Group Leader in Chile and Canada.
Education: B.Sc. (Hons) Geography (University of Edinburgh, 2000), Ph.D. Glaciology (University of St. Andrews, 2005), Habilitation in Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences (University of Innsbruck, 2020). Technical expertise includes fieldwork in Himalayas, Alps, Andes, and Arctic, with skills in glacier modeling, remote sensing, and geophysical surveys.
Key projects include modeling debris-covered glaciers, atmospheric drivers of glacier change, and sediment transfer dynamics. She has secured grants totaling over €1 million from Austrian Science Fund (FWF), EU Interreg, and National Geographic. Active in outreach through public talks, Girls on Ice Austria, and science communication.
