Lindsey J Bauer is a PhD candidate in the Department of History at the University of Bristol and a member of the Bristol Doctoral College, where she tutors undergraduate courses in Early Modern Europe, Medieval Europe, and Decolonisation.
Her research investigates mental health, challenges, and resilience strategies of Italian Renaissance women (1350-1650), focusing on Venice, Florence, and Rome. She examines domestic violence, pandemics (plague/syphilis), infant mortality, marriage, judicial tribunals, suicide, melancholy, financial distress, and religious coping mechanisms, drawing from primary sources at institutions like the Cini Foundation and Medici Archive Project.
Bauer delivered six public lectures in 2022 on Renaissance women (e.g., Artemisia Gentileschi) to broaden academic accessibility. She is publishing the book 'Implosion'—documenting contemporary UK women's parallel experiences—with JMD Media, and plans 2023 conference presentations on early modern health and witchcraft.
