Professor Lindsay Hamilton is a Chair in Animal Organization Studies and Deputy Dean (Strategy and Academic Planning) at the University of York's School for Business and Society within The York Management School. Her research focuses on organizational ethnography and human-animal interactions in workplaces like slaughterhouses, farms, veterinary practices, and zoos. She has published widely in journals such as Organization and Sociology, and co-authored influential books like Animals at Work and Ethnography after Humanism.
Her work emphasizes innovative ethnographic methods to study multi-species dynamics and the unintended consequences of management practices. Recent research explores ethical dilemmas in octopus farming, post-COVID fieldwork adaptations, and kinship relationships involving non-human species. She has held editorial roles for Contemporary Issues in Management and co-edited special issues on gender, animals, and work.
Professor Hamilton teaches courses on organizational change and the evolving nature of work. She advises doctoral students in human-animal studies, science and technology sociology, and ethnographic methodologies.
