Linden Elizabeth Higgins is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biology at the University of Vermont (UVM). Her work focuses on improving STEM education for adult learners and refining teaching methodologies in higher education. She holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from UVM.
Her research emphasizes evidence-based teaching practices, including formative assessments and problem-solving techniques in large lecture settings. She has developed innovative approaches to enhance student outcomes through structured quizzes and collaborative learning. Higgins also studies the ecological behavior of Nephila clavipes spiders, integrating fieldwork and student-led projects in Mexico.
Awarded the 2025 President’s Distinguished Senior Lecturer Award, her contributions to pedagogical innovation and educational leadership are widely recognized. Her expertise bridges K-12 educational research and university-level instruction, advocating for intentional teaching strategies rooted in scientific evidence.
