Zhang's research explores how technologies like VR, machine learning, and 3D scanning can embody community memory and cultural identity. Her projects often involve collaborations with marginalized communities, such as Toronto’s Chinatown West, focusing on co-design and speculative fiction. She investigates material processes (e.g., ceramics, slip casting) as extensions of cognitive practices.
Her recent articles address topics like urban politics in Chinatowns, shanzhai photogrammetry, and spatial justice in Brixton. These works blend architectural theory, critical technology studies, and cultural critique.
