Dr. Linda May is a tenured Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at East Carolina University (ECU) and an adjunct faculty member in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Brody School of Medicine. She directs the Human Performance Lab at ECU and co-founded the American College of Sports Medicine Pregnancy and Postpartum Special Interest Group, also co-chairing the European Congress of Sports Science's Physical Activity in Pregnancy and Postpartum group.
Her research investigates how exercise and diet during pregnancy impact maternal, placental, and child health outcomes. She is a leading advocate for physical activity in pregnancy and postpartum, with her work featured globally in media including the New York Times and Good Morning America. Dr. May's lab, ranked #7 worldwide, has produced over 100 peer-reviewed articles, books, and book chapters.

She mentors postdoctoral fellows, OB residents, and graduate students across multiple levels. Her research is funded by the American Heart Association, NIH, BlueCross BlueShield, Thrasher Foundation, Gerber Foundation, DEXCOM, and supported by Brooks, Inc. for her program for pregnant and postpartum women.
As Director of the Human Performance Lab, she leads a team dedicated to improving maternal and child health through exercise science. She is an active member of numerous professional organizations including the American Heart Association, ACSM, CSEP, European Congress of Sports Science, and US DOHaD.
