Dr. Linda Hirons is a Research Fellow at the University of Leeds' School of Earth and Environment, specializing in climate science and meteorology with a focus on tropical weather systems, sub-seasonal forecasting, and climate impacts. Her work emphasizes improving forecast accuracy for regions like East Africa and enhancing climate services for agricultural and public health applications.
Key research areas include the Madden-Julian Oscillation's influence on East African rainfall, systematic biases in climate models affecting seasonal forecasts, and the application of sub-seasonal forecasts to mitigate droughts and meningitis outbreaks. She leads projects such as the African SWIFT initiative, fostering collaborative climate prediction advancements across Africa.
