Linda Helen Doerrer is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Boston University, specializing in synthetic inorganic chemistry with a focus on fluorinated ligands and nanomaterials. She leads the Doerrer Group, which explores high oxidation states in transition metals and low-dimensional conductors via metallophilicity. Her research integrates collaborations with physicists and engineers for advanced material characterization.
Education: B.A. (Cornell, 1991), Ph.D. (MIT, 1996), followed by postdoctoral work at Oxford (1996–1999). She joined BU in 2006 after teaching at Barnard College. Awards include the Emily Gregory Award (2002) and a Fulbright Scholarship (2013).
Research interests span synthetic inorganic chemistry, ligand design for transition metal stabilization, and nanowire assembly. Her lab employs advanced techniques including UV/vis/NIR spectroscopy and Schlenk line systems. Advising highlights include alumni at prestigious institutions like MIT and Stanford.
Her work bridges inorganic synthesis with materials science, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to functional materials. Current projects include modifying metal atom chains for spin-based conductivity and developing novel fluorinated ligands for catalytic applications.
