Linda Doerrer is a Professor at Boston University, holding appointments in the Department of Chemistry and the Division of Materials Science & Engineering. She also serves as the Associate Director of the Kilachand Honors College. She earned a B.A. in Chemistry (magna cum laude) from Cornell University (1991), a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from MIT (1996), and conducted postdoctoral research at Oxford University (1996–1999). Her research focuses on synthetic inorganic chemistry, particularly the stabilization of high oxidation states in transition metals using fluorinated ligands and the bottom-up synthesis of conducting nanowires via metallophilic interactions.
Her honors include the Fulbright Scholar Award (2013), Henry Dreyfus Fellowship (2005), and Emily Gregory Award for Excellence in Teaching (2002). She has advised numerous students, including PhD candidates, master’s students, and undergraduates, many of whom have contributed to high-impact publications in areas like transition metal complexes, nanomaterials, and catalysis.
Doerrer’s lab, the Doerrer Group, is known for innovative work in fluorinated alkoxide/aryloxide chemistry and magnetic materials. Recent projects include developing copper-based catalysts for nitrate reduction and studying antiferromagnetic coupling in heterobimetallic complexes. Her work bridges fundamental chemistry with applications in energy and environmental science.
