Alison Fout is a Professor and Associate Head for Graduate Studies at the Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University, holding the Davidson Chair in Science. Her research focuses on designing ligand architectures for transition metal complexes to address challenges in catalytic, synthetic inorganic, and bioinorganic chemistry, with an emphasis on sustainable catalysts for strong bond activation. She earned a B.S. from Gannon University (2002), M.S. from UNC Charlotte (2004), Ph.D. from Indiana University (2009), and completed postdoctoral research at Harvard University (2009-2012).
Key research areas include bioinorganic catalysis, energy-related inorganic systems, organometallic chemistry, and sustainable synthesis. Notable awards include the 2025 Thieme Chemistry Journals Award, 2021 American Chemical Society Emergent Investigator, and 2020 Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award. Her work has been supported by grants such as the DOE Early Career Program and NSF CAREER Award. The Fout Group explores catalysts for oxyanion reduction, nitrate/nitrite remediation, and bio-inspired systems.
