Linda DeVeaux is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Biology at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech). She holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Virginia (1985) and a B.S. in Genetics from the University of California, Berkeley (1979). Her research focuses on microbiology and molecular biology of extremophiles, particularly investigating radiation survival mechanisms in organisms like Halobacterium salinarum, phage therapy targeting pathogens, and extremophile genomics for bioremediation applications. She has published extensively on topics including radiation resistance, extremophile metabolism, and biotechnological uses of microbial systems.
Education:
- B.S., Genetics, University of California, Berkeley (1979)
- Ph.D., Microbiology, University of Virginia (1985)
Research Interests:
Linda's lab explores the resilience of extremophiles under extreme conditions, with applications in bioremediation, phage therapy, and astrobiology. Key projects include:
- Decoding radiation survival mechanisms in archaea
- Engineering phages for pathogen targeting
- Studying extremophile metabolism for industrial biotechnology
- Analyzing microbial communities in harsh environments
Advising and Collaboration:
She mentors current students in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of microbiology, bioinformatics, and biotechnology. Former lab members have pursued careers in academia, national labs, and biotech industries.
