Linda Currie is a Lecturer in Adult Nursing at the University of York. With a clinical background in respiratory medicine, sexual health, and dementia care, she transitioned to academia in 2007 while maintaining part-time clinical work in a private surgical ward. Her research focuses on Bourdieu’s Cultural and Social Capital, particularly how they affect Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) and working-class students' access to Further and Higher Education.
- Qualifications: RGN, BA (Hons) in Managing Health and Social Care Organisations, DTLLS, MA (Education), PgDip (Education), NMC Registered Teacher.
Linda’s research includes a narrative study on Minority Ethnic boys' uptake of Health and Social Care courses in Further Education. She teaches undergraduate modules on quality and safety in healthcare and cooperative learning groups, and contributes to cervical cytology education. Her recent publication explores adaptive interaction as a non-verbal communication method for individuals with dementia.
Linda’s external activities include Nursing and Midwifery Council memberships. She works part-time clinically in a private hospital while holding her academic role.
