Linda Corbally

Linda Corbally is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Sunderland, teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology courses. She is based at Tech Park 1, City Campus and specializes in Health Psychology with a focus on mindfulness, mental health, and resilience.

Dr. Corbally's research focuses on the intersection of outdoor sports, mental health, and wellbeing, particularly examining how activities like running, rock climbing, and surfing affect resilience. She has developed a specialized interest in mindfulness applications in both athletic performance and perinatal mental health. Her work combines qualitative research methods with clinical practice insights, drawing from her extensive NHS experience in mental and physical health settings including IAPT, pain management, obstetrics and gynaecology, and veterans' services.

Her publications demonstrate expertise in mindfulness interventions for runners and perinatal women, with systematic reviews published in Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology (2020) and Mindfulness (2021). She has completed additional clinical training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Interventions.

Dr. Corbally brings substantial clinical experience from primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services to her academic work. Originally from Ireland, she has made her home in the northeast of England and personally connects with her research through her own outdoor activities, which she describes as 'naturally mindful activities.'
