She serves as the coordinator for the Economics specialization within the Business and Economics program and is a member of the faculty board. Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Economics from Växjö University (2009)
Dr. Aldén's research focuses on social and economic inequality, with particular emphasis on labor market integration of foreign-born individuals, self-employment patterns, and the effects of sexual orientation on income and work opportunities. She has extensively studied how social gender norms influence educational choices and family formation. Her current research centers on family formation and fatherhood, including trends in male childlessness and fathers' parental leave uptake. She employs experimental methods to examine discrimination in labor and housing markets.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals three interconnected research streams: immigrant entrepreneurship (particularly in rural contexts), LGBTQ+ labor market outcomes, and contemporary fatherhood patterns. Her work consistently leverages Swedish register data and experimental methodologies to address questions of discrimination, integration, and social inequality. The interdisciplinary nature of her research bridges labor economics, family economics, and social policy analysis.
Dr. Aldén has held significant academic and policy roles:
- Editor for Ekonomisk Debatt (2017-2018)
- Member of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council
She leads and participates in several major research projects funded by prestigious organizations including the Swedish Research Council, the Jan Wallander & Tom Hedelius Foundation, and the Kamprad Foundation. These projects examine diversity in the labor market, self-employment in rural areas, and fatherhood patterns. She teaches Economics of Migration at the undergraduate level and Advanced Labor Economics at the master's level.
Dr. Aldén is actively involved in research environments including the Linnaeus University Centre for Equality of Opportunity and Big Data Policy Analysis and the multidisciplinary "Diversity in the Labour Market" research environment funded by the Swedish Research Council (2019-2024).
