LinDa Saphan, PhD, serves as Assistant Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Professor of Sociology at Mount Saint Vincent University. She holds a PhD from the University of Paris X, with additional qualifications from École Normale Supérieure de Paris/EHESS, Sorbonne-Paris V, and other prestigious institutions. Her research focuses on Cambodian cultural studies, qualitative methods, and urban sociology/anthropology. A 2024 Fulbright Scholar, Saphan is a leading authority on Cambodian cinema and music history, producing groundbreaking work on 1960s-1975 Cambodian filmmakers and popular music.
Her publications include Faded Reels: The Art of Four Cambodian Filmmakers 1960-1975 (2022) and co-edited volumes on urban transformation. She has presented at major conferences like the Association of Asian Studies Annual Conference and collaborated on documentaries like Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock and Roll. Professional affiliations include the American Sociological Association and Alpha Kappa Delta.
Recent research explores diasporic Cambodian American soundscapes and post-colonial cultural preservation. Her work bridges academic rigor with public engagement through film production and international speaking engagements.
