Lin Prøitz is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Communication, Oslo Metropolitan University. Her work focuses on digital media, affectivity, gender, and online communities. She holds a PhD from the University of Oslo (2007) and has held positions at institutions like the University of Sheffield (Marie Curie Fellow) and the Norwegian Institute for Children's Books. Her research spans feminist media studies, digital methods, and health online, with a focus on young people's emotional realities and digital engagement.
Key research areas include the impact of digital media on emotion, gendered online behaviors, and the role of social media in social change. She has published extensively on topics like involuntary celibacy (incels), affective practices in platforms like Snapchat, and the sociopolitical implications of viral media (e.g., the Alan Kurdi image).
