Eindhoven University of Technologyمعرفی
Lin-Lin Chen is a Full Professor and chair of Design Innovation Strategy at the Department of Industrial Design, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). She previously served as a Professor at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) and an Adjunct Professor at National Taiwan University. Chen is also dean of the Industrial Design Department at TU/e and president elect of the International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR). Her career spans leadership roles, including dean of the college of design at NTUST (2004–2010), president of the Chinese Institute of Design (2007–2008), and convener for the arts and design area committee of Taiwan’s National Science Council (2009–2011).
- BSc in Industrial Design from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan (1984)
- PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan, USA (1992)
Her research focuses on user interfaces for the Internet of Things, design innovation strategy, product aesthetics, and interaction design for smart things. She explores how emerging technologies like wireless sensing and computing enable products to engage with time, movement, and expression beyond static forms. Recent work emphasizes privacy-aware design for data-enabled objects, collaboration in healthcare, and AI integration in radiology.
Chen’s publications reflect trends in Human-Computer Interaction, Design Research, and Smart Systems. Key themes include contextual design, emergent relationships between objects, and ethical considerations in interactive technologies. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to sustainable cities, responsible consumption, and reduced inequalities.
Scientific achievements include the Best Conference Paper Award at IEEE ICASI 2016. She co-founded the International Journal of Design, now a leading publication in the field, and has been Editor-in-Chief since 2006. Chen actively contributes to academic leadership through editorial roles and international collaboration networks.
