Lillee Gelinas, DNP, RN, CPPS, FAAN, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Education & Health Systems Science and serves as Patient Safety Director at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM), part of the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duke University, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is a veteran of the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps.
Her expertise spans patient and workforce safety, clinical leadership, health system operations, and performance improvement. She leads award-winning programs in patient safety and serves on the CMS Hospital Harms Technical Expert Panel. As Editor-in-Chief of American Nurse (ANA’s official journal) since 2014, she advocates for nursing excellence and is a member of the International Academy of Nurse Editors.
Her research focuses on patient safety, nursing leadership innovation, and healthcare technology. Notable projects include a 2023–2024 study on healthcare policy curriculum needs assessment. Key publications address organizational redesign in nursing leadership, IT challenges in healthcare, and infection control practices.
Awards include FAAN (Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing) and recognition for editorial leadership. Her work bridges clinical practice, education, and policy to drive systemic improvements in healthcare delivery.
