Dr Lilith Brouwers is a Research Fellow in Gender and Work at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Sociology and Social Policy within the Faculty of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Work and Employment Relations from the University of Leeds, an MSc in Gender Research from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Gender Studies and Liberal Arts from Utrecht University. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on understudied labour forms, particularly in gendered professions and sex work, emphasizing ethical engagement with marginalised groups.
Current research includes the ESRC-funded 'L-earning: Rethinking Young Women's Working Lives' project, examining early work experiences of young women (23-29) in Health & Social Care, Fashion & Beauty, and Childcare/Education sectors. This project explores how early work shapes gendered inequalities in later life. Previously, her PhD research produced a report on sex workers' third-party relationships, cited by the EU Human Rights Commissioner in advocating for sex work decriminalisation.
Brouwers coordinates the Sex Work & Labour Network and supports the Disability Culture Research Network through peer feedback sessions. She is affiliated with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies and Centre for Disability Studies at Leeds.
