Dr. Lihua Zhan serves as an Academic Visitor at Imperial College London and concurrently holds the rank of Associate Professor at Central South University, China. His research focuses on constitutive modeling, simulation of creep age forming (CAF) processes for aluminum alloys (e.g., AA7075), and finite element analysis (FEA) in mechanical engineering. He has expertise in materials behavior under extreme conditions, including hot ductility, fracture toughness, and process simulation for advanced manufacturing techniques like fast roll-casting and trans-normal cast rolling.
- Education:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Central South University, China
- MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Central South University, China
- BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Hunan University of Science and Technology, China
His research combines theoretical modeling with practical applications, addressing challenges in aluminum alloy processing and forming mechanisms in large-scale structures. Current projects involve developing material models and FEA frameworks for CAF processes to optimize aerospace-grade aluminum panels. Past work includes investigations into fracture mechanics of thick aluminum plates and novel casting technologies.
Opportunities for PhD studentships are available in collaboration with Professors Liliang Wang, Daniel Balint, Jun Jiang, Zhusheng Shi, and Jianguo Lin, focusing on recycled steel mechanics and welding applications.
