Dr Liesbeth Corens is a Senior Lecturer in Early Modern History at Queen Mary University of London's School of History. Her research focuses on the history of mobility, archives, and minority Catholic communities in early modern Europe. She investigates how displaced English and Dutch Catholics constructed communal identity through commemoration and record-keeping, challenging traditional narratives of exclusion. Her monograph Confessional Mobility (2019) redefines religious migration via the concept of 'confessional mobility,' emphasizing dynamic transnational connections. Current projects explore how commemorative practices actively shaped Catholic minority identities amid diaspora. Corens teaches courses like HST6208 on Renaissance convent life and supervises postgraduates in early modern religious and archival studies. She is based in ArtsTwo 3.11 but on sabbatical in 2024 Semester A.
Research Interests: Early modern Catholicism, minority archives, commemoration, transnational religious networks, record-keeping practices, and the socio-cultural history of exile.
